Introducing any new technology in justice is hard work—never mind something as fast-moving as AI. We have to be careful, because the stakes are higher. We are dealing with people's rights, their liberty, their livelihoods.
Purpose
Every project must clearly serve a need: make access easier, decisions fairer, or processes faster—ideally all three.
Trust
It has to be understandable, auditable, and lawful—so people know what it is doing and why, with humans in control.

What We've Learned
Start small and useful. Write the purpose in one line and do governance early—DPIA, lawful basis, threat modelling.
Keep humans in the loop with an audit trail. AI assists, humans decide.
Expect the slow lane to be the data: finding it, permission to use it, cleaning it, and wiring it into legacy—AI can sprint; delivery moves at the speed of data and governance.
